1. Plan the Layout First

  • Think about how you’ll use the space: shower, bath, toilet, vanity.
  • Common layouts:
  • Single-wall (for small bathrooms)
  • Galley layout (fixtures on two sides)
  • L-shaped or U-shaped (for larger spaces)
  • Ensure good flow and space between fixtures (min 30–36 inches).

2. Select a Style or Theme

  • Choose a consistent design style:
  • Modern: Minimal, clean lines, neutral colors
  • Luxury: Marble, gold fixtures, chandeliers
  • Rustic: Wood textures, stone sinks, matte black fixtures
  • Scandinavian: White tiles, light wood, soft tones

3. Choose Color Scheme

  • Light colors = more spacious feel (white, cream, soft gray)
  • Dark tones = bold and dramatic (charcoal, navy, forest green)
  • Add accent tiles or walls for interest

4. Fixtures & Features

  • Vanity: Floating or built-in with storage
  • Sink: Vessel, undermount, or pedestal
  • Shower: Frameless glass, walk-in with rain shower head
  • Bathtub: Freestanding for luxury, alcove for compact spaces
  • Toilet: Wall-hung or floor-mounted
  • Mirror: Backlit or framed, maybe with storage

5. Lighting Layers

  • Task lighting: Over mirror or vanity (e.g., LED strip, sconces)
  • Ambient lighting: Ceiling lights or recessed downlights
  • Accent lighting: Under-vanity or around mirrors

6. Materials & Finishes

  • Floor: Porcelain, ceramic, or waterproof vinyl tiles
  • Walls: Tiles up to ceiling in wet zones; paint elsewhere
  • Countertops: Quartz, marble, granite, or solid surface
  • Hardware: Chrome, matte black, brass, or brushed nickel

7. Storage Solutions

  • Recessed shelves in shower wall
  • Vanity drawers with organizers
  • Wall-mounted cabinets or open shelves
  • Mirror cabinets

8. Extras for Comfort

  • Heated floors
  • Towel warmer
  • Smart mirrors
  • Bluetooth speakers
  • Plants for freshness (e.g., aloe vera, fern)

Sample Moodboard (Style: Modern Minimalist):

  • Color: White + Light Gray + Matte Black
  • Flooring: Concrete-look porcelain tile
  • Vanity: Floating white oak with quartz top
  • Shower: Frameless glass with rain head
  • Lighting: Linear LED above mirror + recessed lights
